Grammarly: The Must-Have Tool

As a mommy blogger, social media marketer, and an ebook writer, one of the biggest challenges I have with my writing is grammar. Sometimes, I have great ideas on what to write, but I find myself wondering something as basic as whether or not a sentence needs another comma or semi-colon. Luckily, I found Grammarly.

Microsoft Word vs Grammarly

Although Microsoft Word and many other word processing software has a built-in spell check and grammar check function; however, these spell checkers can only detect if words are spelled correctly, not if they are used correctly. For example, the following sentence would have passed the ordinary spell checker in MS word.

“The ordinary spell check will not fine words witch are miss used but spelled rite.”

A couple of months ago, I decided to give Grammarly a try to see if it would help me with my writing. At first, I was quite skeptical, as Grammarly is a free browser extension. After all, how good can something FREE be?

After using Grammarly for a couple of blog posts, I’ve concluded that EVERY blogger needs Grammarly.

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a free browser extension that will proofread any writing you do online, whether it is via your blog or a social media platform like Facebook, Twitter, etc. Not only will it let you know when there are spelling and grammar mistakes, it even makes suggestions for you on how you might fix it. Grammarly will make sure your messages, documents, and social media posts are clear, mistake-free, and impactful.

Is It Really Free?

Yes, Grammarly is absolutely free, that’s how amazing it is. The free version of Grammarly checks for 150 common grammatical mistakes, including spelling. Things that it checks for include subject-verb agreement, tenses, and it even makes sure you use the correct version of a word that has multiple spellings.

How Does Grammarly Work?

Grammarly is super simple to use. Simple install the extension into your browser and start writing. It will underline potential mistakes in red and a red circle appears to let you know how many potential mistakes there are in your current document. By clicking on each individual red line, another box will pop up and give you suggestions on how to correct your mistakes. If you think you are correct and Grammarly is wrong, simply hit the “ignore button”

Grammarly Premium

Now, as a blogger, I think the free version of Grammarly is more than enough. However, as I venture into being an ebook writer which is a lot more grammar-focused and writing intensive, there is a premium version of Grammarly I could use for $11.66 per month.
